The group is as old as CKC church if not older. The group ‘Queen of Peace’ has been the 1st and mother group for all other CCR groups in this Diocese.
His Lordship Rt Rev Dr. M. O. Fagun introduced the renewal movement to the Lay faithful of Ekiti diocese in March 1980. The group took off at Maria Assumpta Hospital chapel under the tutelage of Rev. Sr. Mary Hannah (SL), who was already involved in the movement in her home country.
Some of the Lay faithful who received and accepted the news of the renewal gathered every Monday at 5:00pm weekly. The members were:
Rev Sr Hannah (SL) Mr. M.A. Ajayi Ibukunolu
Mrs. A.M. Dada Mr. A. Ajila
Mrs. V. Omomo Mrs. Rhoda Ajayi
Mrs C.A. Ojo Mrs. M.I. Adeyingbo
Mrs. F. B. Ajila Mrs. Mary A. Ajayi
Mrs. F.B. Ajila M r. R. O. Arabi.
Mr. Ignatius Inspector Awka; and few others.
The only renewal group immediately moved from Assumpta to the present CKC church when the church was born in 1982.
Before and up to the time, the group had experienced “Life in the Spirit Seminar” conducted by few of the white Priests from Ekiti Diocese and Pa Akinolu Otiko from Ondo Diocese. In the process, the group was opened to the actions of the Holy Spirit both in the lives of individuals and in the church.
This encouraged members to start other churches like St. Patrick’s Catholic Cathedral, Ado- Ekiti, St Mary’s Irona, St Columbas Ikoro, and so on, to the extent that the renewal had spread to all nook and cranny of Ekiti Diocese.
Some of the activities of the renewal are:
- Outreach started with a day programme which later extended to 4days
- Victory parade round the towns
- Mass celebration
- Home to home evangelization
- Regular prayer meeting and house fellowship
- Conference-Diocesan, province, National
- Bible Study and Reteats
- Night vigils and life in the spirit seminars
- Pentecost day celebrations annuals events
- Evangelization course etc.
Chaplains were appointed by the Bishop from time to time, but CKC Queen of Peace, the Parish Priest has always been the spiritual director. They had helped the group to grow according to the mind of the church.
Some of the ministries in CCR include:
- Teaching Ministry
- Praise and worship Ministry
